RE: One D&D Auto Success Or Fail Roll, D20 Roll

I don't get the rule, I mean they say if you roll a 1 it's an auto fail....meaning that 1 can't hit anything.

Obviously, 1 being a positive number does have some hit effect.....then plus any hit bonus makes a 1 at least a 2 if you have an attack +1.

Meaning....you don't have 1 is automatically fail ONLY on beginning adventure settings where they don't have an ability bonus on the attack roll.

For Example....Ability Score must be 10 for a minimum +1 bonus.

That's mean adjust ability score to attack roll bonus.....

Never assign an attack roll ability score bonus that is not at least +1 on attack.

On the other hand a strength of 8 may be a -1 penalty on the attack roll making 2 an automatic fail if the players stats are too low.

Combine this with ability score check for difficulty class rule and it is in effect at lower levels.

For example you always get a 2 in 5 chance to win the Difficulty Class and 1 is only an auto fail on attack roll is 0 is the ability score attack roll bonus.
