I'm in Halifax Nova Sotia, the Cyclone hit around the Canso Spacesport in Port Hawksbury Nova Scotia hundreds of miles from here when it landed on the main land.
Most of Halifax had no power I think yesterday half was restored, further north it is really bad including Prince Edward Island which they were saying was "turned into a sandbar".
The storm is supposed to continue north into Quebec.
In Halifax both bridges were closed with no relief centers, only the Canada Games Center in Bayers Lake and residents were told they have to go around Bedford Basin in Halifax Harbour to get to the center...
Yeah you can't...
There was no power for gas stations or something and it's like a "50 mile trip" - I don't know the real number - around the basin or something and you can't walk it or probably drive.
So the nearest center to me was like 50 miles by foot, in my neighborhood at Mic Mac Mall huge trees were knocked down in people yards.
They said where power was on after the storm people were lined up in cars to the coffee shop on down Robie street for at least four blocks trying to get food and they said trees were on fire from downed power lines all over the city.
So there is no school today in Halifax and no relief centers or extra funding for storm recovery in the area.
Up north in places like Newfoundland houses were swept out to sea and there was a story of a missing child who they said turned up later.
No other details because you can't really get out anywhere and the city is up just neighborhood to neighborhood.
They had no support for the elderly, disabled or people who live alone which is the big story around here.
Then the apartments are all full of bugs and everything during the storm.
Regarding the cel phone emergency alert system...the message was sent Friday afternoon about eight hours maybe before the power went out when the storm hit.
