There is a hurricane warning right now in the Atlantic and heading for the United States, we just had a bad one last August on the East Coast and the power was out for days.
Recommendations from last year:
1. Store bottles of water in the fridge.
2.Have food in the house - stuff that you can eat when the power is out like bread, peanut butter, jam, etc. stuff like juice mix...then use your barbecue to boil water and have heat, get lots of propane and charcoal.
Get ready to eat cold canned food, cook food on barbecue or use gas generator.
If you don't have much money get water for fridge for several days, buy anything cheap that you can like bread, plan on not using stove for a week.
Check local community centers for relief stations because last year there was no help or announcements.
Try to find gas stations with powered generators, in Dartmouth there is one on Main Street.
