RE: Metallica - St. Anger

Oh yeah, so I got a chance to go through this album a few years back from my studio just to get an opinion down from the production level and went through the record and their documentary etc.

Too me it looks like they went broke making this record, I can tell you what the problem with it is.

The label / studio doesn't understand James Hetfields concept to produce the record...like a head of it's time yes, for the studio people.

Like the label at the time couldn't do the record, I'm telling you that this would have been a huge record if the concept had of been translated to the album, in fact to me this is the "White Album" to go with the "Black Album" but it didn't make it, maybe they will redo it when the studio people catch up to them.

This is what I'm trying to say, Metallica's white album St. Anger...we're taking five years production time to make this record at $10,000 an hour writing and recording in the studio like the Beatles.

Well it's hard to get the record done if the label doesn't understand the concept because they never heard of it before, so the producers couldn't write the record for their concept because they never had it before.

This is what happens to artists like this, they get their creativity flowing and then do a bunch of album then they get this crazy huge concept in their heads, then the studio never heard of it.

Then James humming and singing the riffs to the producer can't play the concept because they never had the guitar parts before because it is an original concept and also didn't have the studio capabilities to record the concept from the album.

Like it sounds like a demo album.

I mean it's hard for a label / studio to make a record for an artist if the concept never existed, no ones knows how to play or record the riffs and then can't translate the concept to tape , then they end up going broke trying to "capture" the concept on the album, which didn't happen on St. Anger...but if you listen enough you can hear what they are going for...like this was supposed to be a huge album, probably Metallica biggest....maybe a "Kill 'em All" meets "Master Of Puppets" and "Re-Load" all mixed together....I think this would have been a huge record if it had of been completed properly.

Hopefully today or in the future their studios will be able to capture the concept so the album can be finished if they wanted to.
