NHL HOCKEY: Madison Square Garden Founded By 1920's Prohibition Bootleggers

Madison Square Garden: Americans vs. Canadians
Did you know that Madison Square Garden in New York City was founded by alcohol bootleggers during prohibition in the United States in the 1920's and that they forced the original New York City NHL hockey team the New York Americans out of the league and stole their spot to form the New York Rangers NHL hockey team?

I'm sure this would have been a big story back then in the 1920's in all the newspapers.

Many people often confuse the Original Six NHL teams with the actual start of the NHL in the year 1917 just before the founding of the New York Americans, also known as the Brooklyn Americans for their last season, in fact had the New York Americans not folded they would have been the seventh team in the Original Six making it the Original Seven which never happened.

The Original Six in fact is NOT the original start of the NHL which many people think.

"The Original Six" was a time period in the NHL between the original NHL in 1917 and the 1967 NHL expansion.

The original six was in fact a "de-expansion" in the NHL after World War 2, the league re-expanded to it's larger line up in the 1967 NHL Expansion.

The Original League was something like this:

Hamilton Tigers
Pittsburgh Pirates (hockey team) / Philadelphia Quakers
Ottawa Senators / St. Louis Eagles
Montreal Maroons
New York Americans / Brooklyn Americans

Those were the Official NHL Teams along with what became the Original Six.

After those teams folded that's when the original six started putting the NHL Hockey League at around 11 teams in the 1920's - 1930's , then later it was reduced to six teams for twenty five years until the 1967 NHL Expansion.

Before this period other teams played with the Original Six in the same league for nearly twenty seasons like the New York Americans.

So "The Original Six" they mean are the six teams left from the original league which they used as a marketing campaign.

They are not the first six teams in the NHL as many people think, they are the last six teams left after the shut down from World War Two.

That is from the main NHL League that ran during the roaring twenties and into the great depression.

They then fell back to six teams after the war and then re-expanded in 1967.

It is important to remember that the Original Six NHL Teams are NOT the first six teams, they are the "last six" from the roaring twenties period.

Then after the 1967 NHL Expansion those six teams were known as "The Original Six" of the new NHL league and are the six teams that didn't fold in world war two.

The Original Ottawa Senators, which in the material they stress is not the same franchise as the first one but someone bought and restarted the name, and the New York Americans which were the original rival of the Montreal Canadians would have been the seventh and eighth teams to the Original Six as an example.

HOWEVER.

Madison Square Garden in New York City, an area in New York City that used to allow men to hit each other in the face with hockey sticks they are saying splitting their heads open and smashing their faces for the crowd's entertainment,  forced the rival of the Montreal Canadians, the New York Americans out of the league and replaced them with the New York Rangers.

In fact the New York Americans are caught in the news archives and hockey records bootlegging alcohol during prohibition at Madison Square Garden who then apparently strong armed them out of the league to take their spot with their own team the New York Rangers because they knew they were bootleggers and had them in financial debt for rental fees and NHL contracts at Madison Square Garden.

Then they are saying that the New York Americans were actually being paid for by alcohol bootleggers and their team was importing alcohol from Canada by using the NHL as a cover to sell liquor in New York City during prohibition out back at Madison Square Garden where the team played.

Madison Square Garden after it's opening was under contract to have the NHL team play in New York City in their arena which was owned by alcohol bootlegger by Bill Dwyer a notorious New York City Bootlegger.

Dwyer owner of the NHL Team the New York Americans bought the players from the Hamilton Tigers NHL team which closed became in debt with the NHL and Madison Square Garden.

Madison Square Garden used this to strong arm Dwyer by taking his NHL team spot by starting their own team for the Stadium the New York Rangers.

The New York Rangers got the top spot in New York City as they forced the New York Americans into the smaller slot in the NHL and losing their rivalry with the Montreal Canadians  which was taken over by the New York Rangers.

The New York Americans who were a losing team but a fan favorite in New York City who were funded by selling alcohol in New York City during prohibition through the NHL and Madison Square Garden were quickly forced out of the spot light and replaced by the New York Rangers.

The New York Americans were easily forced out of the NHL because they were involved in illegal activities, were in debt to the NHL and could not meet their financial obligations to rent, play and fulfill their NHL contract in New York City.

However the team was very prominent and even featured NHL great Eddy Shore for a short stint before the end of the New York Americans franchise.

Eddy Shore has been previously almost been charged with manslaughter on the ice in the NHL for splitting open the head of NHL star Ace Bailey who nearly died from his injuries and needed multiple brain surgeries but survived having a large scar on the side of his head from the skull fracture and operation.

Ace Bailey survived but retired from the NHL.

Eddie Shore went on to fracture his eye sockets and face, then later train Russian Players who came back to the NHL from Russia using Eddie Shore's Hockey School.

Eddy Shore With The New York Americans
Not being able to meet their NHL contracts in New York City the Americans changed their named to the Brooklyn Americans for one season but closed before a new rink could be made in Brooklyn for the teams relocation.

The important facts here are that this was from the Original NHL before the Original Six Period and the teams played for nearly twenty seasons.

The Seattle Metropolitans played in the Pacific League and never made it to the NHL with the Americans and the Senators but that league is where the Stanley Cup came from although the Metropolitans did make it into the league with the trophy.
